Import Data from SAP into Excel

Hello SAP Experts,

I have a requirement from my client side that they want to import SAP ECC 6.0 data from Exel.That means the source point will be excel ie: We have created a function module in SAP and created Visual Basic code in Excel.We will input data into excel the VB code in Excel will call the RFC function module in SAP and will fetch data from SAP into Excel.During calling the RFC function module we are getting the following error:-

Error Group

RFC_ERROR_COMMUNICATION

Message

SAP_CMINIT3 : rc=20 > Connect to SAP gateway failed

Another Question I want to ask that if at all this type of function is possible to fetch the data from SAP into Excel.We tried the above concept with IDES we were able to fetch data from IDES into Excel.Another thing is that is this type of process legal according to SAP license agreement to import SAP ECC 6.0 data into excel?
