We have a production KM connected to a TREX.
We have to shutdown the TREX due to the OS maintenance.
Because we think that TREX only works when it's requested to created indexes, we can shutdown the TREX during the
production time without impacting our KM activities if we do not indexes to be created in the same period.
Is that right?
Points guaranteed. Thanks!
Hi Ashley,
You can shutdown the trex which won't have any impact on the running j2ee engine.During the trex down if some new items are created in km that will be indexed once the trex is up.

Hi Ashley,
hehe..let me make this simple.
TREX UP = Search function works
TREX DOWN = Search function not available
Your Portal is always available even if you shutdown your TREX (provided that your TREX is install on a different server as that of your Portal..base on your statement above for OS maintenance).
Indexes created will not run during the TREX unavailablity (thus any new document created in KM, as not being index, are not available in the search).
When you have your TREX back online, the indexes will crawl on the time set for the indexes. This way, the "new" documents will be available again in your search.
Hope that helps.
