SAP Installation on existing Oracle Environment

Hi people.

I am planning an SAP ECC 6.0 installation for a client who has existing Oracle 10g licenses. Is it mandatory to use the Oracle database software that is shipped with the SAP DVDs? If it is possible to use existing Oracle database installation, what are the considerations for SAP installation?

Thank you for your anticipated prompt responses.

Akin.

Hi,

Exactly you dont need to use existing License as its already there with SAP Kit.

So go ahead with Fresh installation and even more important thing is that to implement SAP follow SAP

Hi,

SAP provides RDBMS software as part of the license. Even you have seperate Oracle license that can be used for some other purpose but not for SAP. SAP customized Oracle installation process and also some additional roles. I recommend to use only SAP supplied oracle DVDs.

Thanks,

Kiran.

This is only partially correct.

SAP provides RDBMS software as part of the license. ONLY if you pay for it.

You can licence SAP without the RDBMS software.

For example, you already have a deal with Oracle, or you prefer to licence the software from Oracle and not from SAP.

You can do it, no problem.

But you have to remember to licence all the components you are going to use.

AFAIK, almost all components you need are included in the SAP licence, like partitioning.

Fidel,

Quick question regarding your comment above.

But you have to remember to licence all the components you are going to use.

AFAIK, almost all components you need are included in the SAP licence, like partitioning.

Could you elaborate more on this statement?

what is AFAIK?

Almost all components meaning, are you referring to oracle features? what are all those that we are going to miss if we are going to use oracle binaries?

I'm also of the thought that implementing ERP would be cheaper and provides more flexibility for the organization if they already possess enterprise oracle (for that matter any SAP supported DB software) license.

any documentation available from SAP on this topic?

looking forward to your response?
