HI masters , why we need to select ep and ep core when installing ecc 6.0

hi masters ,

when installing sap ecc 6 version , why we select both ep and ep core when need to install ep . is it not enough for single one of ep ?

Release Notes for Usage Types EPC and EP

As of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR2, usage type Enterprise Portal (EP) has been separated into two closely related usage types: EP Core (EPC) and Enterprise Portal (EP).

The core portal capabilities available in the former usage type EP have been separated from the remaining capabilities to form its own new usage type, called EP Core. The new usage type provides more flexibility when implementing a portal where the full enterprise portal capabilities, such as knowledge management and collaboration, are not needed.

Usage type EP now includes all the portal add-on capabilities it previously provided, but without the core portal functionality. Usage type EPC is therefore a prerequisite for usage type EP.

If you are installing a scenario variant that requires usage type EP, all release notes in this section are relevant to you. If you are using a business scenario that requires usage type EPC without usage type EP, only release notes in the Portal section are relevant to you.
