Is Print Server Change after Combined Unicode & Upgrade required

Former Member

Hi all,

We are performing a combined upgrade and unicode conversion for our MDMP R/3 4.6C system to ECC 6.0.

We have few special printer servers for chinese, Japanese, Korean language printers.

We want to know what needs to be done to our printer servers after the upgrade and unicode conversion?. like

does these kinds of special printer servers is required ? or can we club all these into one print servers? or we shall point to our unix queues and print to the chinese printers directly?

Kindly advise

Thanks

Senthil

Hi Senthil,

a dedicated print server was necessary until 2000 for MDMP systems per code page, since during that time, the spool process could not switch the code page dynamically. However these servers are obsolete since 2000 - and therefore you do not need them with your 4.6C system as of today !

Of course in a Unicode system these dedicated servers are not necessary as well.

Senthil ,

Unicode will not impact your print queues on Unix . Just direct your print queues to Kanji or Korean printers and they should print fine .

Cheers !
