Show SQL

I am a new user of Crystal Reports 10. When I use the Database drop down menu and try to select "Show SQL", this option, as well as the "Select Distinct Records" option is grayed out, not accessible.

How do I gain access to these grayed out options?

You will not be able to modify the SQL in Show SQL window. This is no longer capable

Hi Barbara,

The Show SQL Query is greyed-out if the database you are connecting to is a PC based database like dBase, Btrieve or Access through a direct connection.

The only time you are able to access the query is if Crystal connects to a SQL database like SQL Server, Oracle, etc. or to a PC based database through ODBC.

In older versions that used Crystal Queries to query the database first would also disable the query but that's because the query was done in the Query first then the report was created from the Query.

Good luck,

Brian

Hi Barbara,

How you created this report ? Based on tables / stored procedure / add command ?

Thanks,

Hello Sastry.

Thanks for responding. I am actually using Crystal Reports 10 for Peoplesoft, and connecting the our J.D. Edwards Enterprise One database and using actual database tables and views to create reports.

Using a ODBC (DSN) connection or a native connection?

Have you selected a data source? Go to Database | Database Expert and in the Database Expert window you should see tables listed on the right side.

Do you have any fields in the layout section (headers, details, footers) of your report?

Are you grouping the report on any fields?

Do you have any record selection formula?

What type and version of database are you hitting?

You also may want to check your File | Options | Database tab settings....

Yes, I have selected a Data Source, and yes, I have fields in the layout section, no grouping, I am using a record seletion through "select expert". Database is Oracle 10g.

My report is very simple and runs fine, I would just like to have access to view the SQL using Show SQL.

I am thinking this may be a set-up issue, and will try working with our CNC for the J.D. Edwards portion to try and resolve.

Thanks for your offerings.
