Hi,

Yes you need to maintain the classification view, each batch will have characteristics say matl: car and batch char:color (different colors may have differnt valuations), so in order to differentiate between different colors of cars you need to maintain this as characteristic, and assign this to material classification view.

Check the above links for more information

Hope this helps.

Batch classification is maintained to differentiate each batch by its characteristics.

you will create the characteristics in ct04

create the class in cl02 of type 023 and assign the characteristics to the class in cl02

once this is done create the material and check the box for batch management in sales data or purchasing data and in the classification view select the type 023 and give the batch class you have created.

go to msc1n and create the batch, your batch will be classified automatically so that u can give the values to the characteristics.

read this to get the overview on batch management http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/57/abcaf98cdf11d184bd0000e82013e8/frameset.htm

config settings :- http://www.sap-img.com/materials/config-setting-in-batch-management.htm

hope it helps
