Delta Initialization with different selections issue for Purchasing.

Dear Experts,

I have a scenario where in my source system i have data for Purchasing from April 07 to till date.

i want to report on Open PO value, so i planning to do the below.

1. As i don't want anything other than PO which are open for a certain Business area only (if i do this the data volume will be less)

i will extract as init only those open PO of that BU from April 07 to September 08. and after loading that i will load all the data for month of October 08 by way of init giving selection as october 08 to october 2020 so if any changes happen to the old po then the changes will come as i have already initialized them and from now on new PO and changes to PO from October will flow.

Is my thinking correct or else am i doing something wrong.

Thanks and regards

Neel

Hi,

If I remember correctly, the open PO is designated by 2 other flags don't recall them at the top of my head) and not by BU or date.

If you initialize by using dates and BU selection, its going to bring in all types of POs not just closed and moreover, you'll be losing out POs for other BUs.

I suggest you initialize the data for the whole of Purchasing and bring that to the EDW layer. Then from there you can create a reporting layer and put filters to extract the data only for open POs, or BU specific , etc.

The other way you could structure your design here is to bring in all the Purchasing data and then restrict it in the query to report only open PO, etc

You might require the other Purchasing data in future even if there is no requirement now and then you'll again have to reinit and you might want to avoid that.

Hi,

Actually i have a list of PO which are open till september 08, so i will extract only them for the history data and all PO from October 08.

So from next time it will bring any changes to the POs which i have extracted dated till september 08 and also changes to PO from october as well as new PO from now onwards.

am i right, so by doing this i will have very less data, because we don't need any past data till september. (clients requirement) and only required PO will be extracted from past as well as only changes to that PO will flow in.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Neel,

If you want data specific to particular BU, then you can do selective intialization with data transfer(which pulls historic data and you can continue next deltas).

By doing this, you will get any changes to Historic records aswell as delta.

Hope it Helps

Hi,

If thats the requirement for now then this would work, but again think ahead in the future. What if a new project does need the past data from Sept.

So, I would suggest you talk with your client and then make the decision.

Cheers,

Kedar
