    Hi Rahul,

In many cases, production companies receive Sales Orders in a short notice;however the production process might take a great deal of time. As a result, it is common for these companies to plan their purchasing and production in advance, even before actual Sales Orders are received. This is the goal of a forecast. A forecast is designed to serve as an additional requirement, therefore the goods are produced based on the forecast and when the actual Sales Orders are received, the company is able to supply the Order in a short notice.

You could also go to SAP Channel Partner Portal-Solution-SAP Business One-Support-Document Resource Center-On line help -Regarding MRP and forecast function.

    Hope this can be helpful.

    Best Regards

    Hi Rahul

To add to what Helen has said, you can also look at your forward/backward consumption settings under Administration > System Initialization > General Settings > Inventory TAB > Planning SUB TAB. Here you can specify how the system deducts the sales order quantities from the forecast quantities.

    Kind regards
