Folks,
I have a fundamental question about SAP clients. Do SAP clients have any relation to each other at all?
If I understand it right, a client-copy makes a complete copy of the source client. After the copy is made, there is no more relationship between the source client and the destination client. Any change in the source client does not effect the destination client and vice versa. Is this right?
Is client 000 any special? For example, if I add a user to client 000, will this user automatically appear in other clients?
Is there any other way to create a functional client besides client-copy?
I just had a fresh install of SAP. No accounts have yet been created. Even company name is not yet defined. If I create a brand new client, say 100, does it make sense to client-copy from 000?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Regards,
Peter

Hi,
Nope no SAP clients are related to each other. However, certain jobs are there which should only be scheduled from client 000.
Moreover, Support Package Application and Add-On installations should is also allowed on client 000.
After a fresh vanilla install it will not any user-id except SAP* and DDIC created. It is a mandate to create any client from 000 as this client has all the SAP Standard config, etc that is needed in a new client.
If you create a client in SCC4 thats fine - but it has no data for that client. The data has to be copied across from some client and SAP suggested best practise is to copy it from 000 after a vanilla installation, this is true across all SAP products and installations except for Solution Manager in which the mandate is to copy it from 001.
Hope this answers your questions.

Don't agree with this statement,
Theres lots of cross client settings and configuration that if done in one client will affect the rest of them in the system.

Yes they do have
000 client is not a working client and is used for eg.support pack upgrade, language installation,..,etc.
001 is used as working client and you will do all configurations and obtain support from SAP
066 used for monitoring and support as early waqtch client.
