Lead time scheduling and Finite scheduling ...

Hi ther e,

As per my understanding Lead time scheduling assumes unlimited available capacity to determine the dates...in contrast to that the finite scheduling take into account the current load at the work center .....

When we run the MRP we can have lead time scheduling & then perform the capacity leveling for finite scheduling ....to take the load situation into consideration ....

Can we execute the MRP with finite scheduling directly ....

Kaushik

Dear,

Yes you are right, but stsndard SAP practice is use the control parameter as lead time scheduling during MRP run, that will create Finite scheduling.

When there is a overload of capacity on the work cneter then only we have to use Dispatch using CM27 or else it is not required.

Hope this helps you.

Hi Brahmankar,

I understand that the case arises when we have capacity scarcity only .....in that case you are suggesting that we will have to do lead time scheduling (MRP run) followed by capacity leveling ....... but there is no way out to directly execute with finite scheduling ......

Dear,

In standard SAP it is not possible. As you do the scheduling with Determination of Basic Dates for Planned it will not generate capacity for the order.

Hi,

As explained by the other members, Finite scheduling is available only in APO.

In R/3 Standard, you have to perform lead time scheduling followed by Capacity levelling only.

Hi Brahmankar,

If we execute MRP with Lead time scheduling & capacity requirement setting then SAP will generate the capacity load (based on other config also).... now suppose that there is overload in that case ...... my question is that MRP will not be able to resolve this issue & we need to carry out capacity levelling for the same seperately..........

Is it posible to generate the capacity & do the finite scheduling during the MRP run ...........

Dear,

APO and I2 are Finite Planning tools. When MRP runs with APO or I2 it takes Capacity issues into consideration. MRP in SAP R/3 Core does not, it assumes infinite capacity available. (MRP only looks at material availablity.)

However, SAP R/3 DOES do finite SCHEDULING, which is where the system 'dispatches" operations on a production order until it fills up the capacity available, then moves to the next time period and dispatches until that period is filled up. In SAP speak, that is called capacity leveling.

APO should only be used for requirement is the solution on it.

Hi Kaushik,

It depends on your definition of 'Directly'. In ERP, you can create a batch job (SM36) which can have multiple steps. So, your first step can be for the program that executes the MRP run. This will create any required planned orders and capacity requirements. The second step can then be the program that executes Cap levelling.

If you are looking for one program in ERP which will perform requirements planning against finite capacity, it does not exist.

Hi,

Finite scheduling by considering the present load at the work center can be obtained with APO. In Std SAP, as mentioned, you have to do Capacity Levelling only.
