Development recommendation Fiori in S/4HANA?

Hello All,

Quick question regarding UI for underlying ABAP developments in S/4HANA.

Is Fiori the only development technology for custom ABAP applications in S/4HANA on-premise? Is Fiori based UI developments a must?

Even if it is not recommended, is it still possible to work with SAP GUI's and Classic dynpros?

Thanks and Regards

    Hello Mahadevan,

"Fiori" is not a technology. What you probably refer to is "SAP UI5".

In SAP S/4HANA 1610 we have run a massive development project for making our classic UIs look like Belize.
If you are interested, you can have a look at our cookbook that gives some insights in the project outcome:
    https://help.sap.com/viewer/bb49e152c3514105b4170e6802735425/1709%20000/en-US/61de185602e242eb9b541fc3cf058270.html

Even today SAP S/4HANA contains quite a number of classic applications (Dynpro running in one of the SAP GUIs and Web Dynpro ABAP). With the project I refer to above we have reworked and adjusted many classic applications and have implemented a new theme "Belize" in SAP GUI that looks very much like Fiori 2.0.

Therefore, the answer to your question is as follows:
    - Of course classic Dynpro and Web Dynpro ABAP can still be used and they look better than ever before (and much like "Fiori").
    - For new developments SAP recommends the usage of newer UI technologies like SAP UI5

    Best regards,
    Frank
