HANA 2 SP02 Backup - Complete as of start or finish?

So I am planning an automated backup and recovery workflow for our HANA workloads and I plan to spot check the data against our production databases.

My question is at what point is the backup complete to?

Given the following backup procedure

12:00 Backup started via SQL(cronjob)
12:15 Backup completed successfully

When I recover this backup do I have all data until 12:00 or do I have all data present at 12:15 or perhaps some other time between those two?

I am trying to determine if I should check PROD data before or after the backup for later comparison in our recovery environment.

Data backups contain the state of the database when the backup was started.

Any data changes that occurred after that point in time are captured via the log area, log backups and subsequent data backups (full, incremental and differential.

Hi Lars,

Thanks for the response!! Is this documented anywhere?

Sure. For example, have a look at SAP note

1642148 - FAQ: SAP HANA Database Backup & Recovery, Pt. 11.

It explicitly answers this question.

Alternatively, you might want to grab one of the SAP HANA Administration books to learn more about HANA... :-)
