Installation of SAP system on Solaris 10 Zone

Hi!

We would like to install a SAP system on Solaris 10 Zone.

Questions

Does Solaris 10 have an integrated X-Server program to run SAPINST or do I only need a SSH-session?

Which programs do I need extra?

With which program can I establish a connection between Windows and Solaris?

Thank you very much!

regards

Thom

Hi Thom,

you need an X Window system in order to connect your Windows with Solaris for installation. Putty will not work as its text based. You need a graphic based such as SSH, Humming bird

Thanks

this is not true. You can nicely run sapinst on Windows and connect it to the sapinst running with "-nogui" on the Solaris box (the installation guide describes this scenario).

However, you need an X-Server for the visual admin and configtool you need the X-Server.

You can use the sapinst - start it using "-nogui" and start the windows sapinst and connect to the Solaris system.

This is covered in the installation guide.

Make sure you follow the following notes:

870652 - Installation of SAP in a Solaris 10 zone

724713 - parameter settings for Solaris 10

Hi Markus,

thank you very much!

The very vital quesiton for me is:

what is the default method to access Unix from Windows?

Which program do I need therefore?

Thank you!

You can use telnet or ssh, a free client is e. g. PuTTY:

Hi Thom,

for normal operations you can use the telnet, but some of the programs like SDM, Visual adminstrator, which is gui based( also non gui) requires you have the X-Windows installed.

Its a free trail software...
