License Initialization Error

Former Member

Hello All,

We are using PowerBuilder 12.5 and have used the same license before. Starting PowerBuilder .NET 12.5 we are faced with this error:

Whether I set LogSySAM to 1 or 2, no .log file gets created. I placed the user I'm running the pbshell.exe into Administrators group on the local machine and I have checked the file / folder permissions, all looks good. I also checked and connectivity with Internet is fine. There is something happening locally on this computer I cannot figure out without the log file and I'm hoping the log file would indicate the problem.

Any idea why I'm getting this error to begin with and why the log file is not getting created?

All help greatly appreciated.

Thank you, we are in the process of finding our information (these programs are old) and we will be in contact.

I have Windows 7 and the pb.ini is located in:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Sybase\PowerBuilder 12.5\pb.ini

I placed the LogSySAM to the pb.ini in the PowerBuilder folder in the user directory and now see this in the log:

pb-error.txt

The license text contains the host name of the computer that I'm trying to apply the license for. However, it is different than the "License hostid". Our previous PowerBuilder computer crashed and ported its OS image with PowerBuilder IDE it into another computer with the same host name.

How can I reapply the license?

Zra,

SAP CIC might be able to help you if your company had originally migrated their PB support to SAP. They would need to validate that and you would need to have a valid s-user id and password. For some PB 12.5 customers, they did not migrate to SAP support and so there would not be a way for SAP CIC to help you with the license. In that case, your licenses should still be on sybase.subscribenet.com. There is not another option to generate a new license.

Pat,

Thanks for your answer. Yes, it's strange my reply isn't up there.

Do you think I'll have to contact SAP CIC if I don't have an account for my company at the sybase.subscribenet.com?

Zratis,

I'm not sure why your reply is not showing up here. Sometimes there is a time lag but you need a new license as the host id in the license does not match the host id in the license file. As you are using PB 12.5, I am not sure if your licenses are on the old Sybase licensing site

https://sybase.subscribenet.com

or on the SAP launchpad but you will need to generate a new license. If you need assistance, SAP CIC may be able to help you.

HI Zratis,

What is your operating system and where is the pb.ini file that you are editing?

The one that should be edited will be in this directory:

C:\Users\userlogin\AppData\Local\Sybase\PowerBuilder 12.5
