Crystal Server XI upgrading to Crystal Server 2008

I tried to install the 2008 server on a server that already has Server XI. However, it does not pick up that there is already an installed version already on it. I installed it and in the Central Configuration Manager there is no services. The other one is still running and working but the new one does not have anything. Plus during the install it said it could not start the CMS and then errored.

I tried to uninstall it and it erros out as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Thomas W

I think you have 2 issues

1) CRS 2008 probably cannot upgrade CRSR1. Can you verify the version of the current CRS 11.x

2) Your DB information entered during install failed (thus the cannot start the CMS message) This is not likely related to the 1st issue.

You may be able to create a SIA and add all the services back in the CCM. Then migrate from the CRSR1 system

If you actually have CRSR2 then an upgrade may be available but will probably have a different workflow.

Build Date: 2006/03/17 05:20:23

Build Number: 438

Product Version: 11.5.3.438

What version is that?

OK that's CRSR2 MHF1 (integrated build)

I would think an upgrade is certainly possible, but haven't tested this workflow yet.

I'll have to research this internally, hopefully in the meantime someone else has done this and can post a solution.

Ok I have confirmed there is no upgrade option in the CRS 2008 installer. So what you have now is a side by side install. This is supported in XI 3.0 but I can't say yet for CRS 08.

Do you have the ability to install the CRS 2008 on a different server or vm slice so you can migrate from CRSR2?

Unfortunately I do not have another server to install this on. Is there any other option?

Well you have to add a sia, webapp, and try to avoid conflicts with all existing services/webapp(s)

I'm not sure this is documented yet. help.sap.com, select business objects on the menu bar, then try looking through the 3.0 docs for more details on this.

You can see all supported platforms from [this link|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/businessobjects-articles]

Yes 64 bit OS is supported. Check the supported platforms for CRS 2008 for more details

Ok, I am installing it on another server. However, when it asks if I want to use an existing server or a mssql server I choose existing but it wants to see an existing database which I dont have. I want to put the db on SQl no mysql. Any idea?

it should be existing or mYsql server. If you don't have an existing DB you were planning on using as the CMS DB it will install and connect to mysql for you. This may be the reason for the CMS failure in your original post. Sounds like you want it to use mysql.

Well I have SQL on that same box so I dont want to install mysql. Does it not have the option of installing to SQL, if I dont have a existing db.

I guess I misunderstood your question.

You can choose any DB on the list but if not mysql then you will have to provide middle ware connectivity and DBO credentials. SQL is supported just create an ODBC connection to the SQL server with a DBO account.

Thats what I am saying I did and it is not working. I have ODBC connection to the server with the credentials and its still giving an error. No matter what I do.

I did upgrade CRS XI to CRS2008. But had to upgrade to SP3 first. The upgrade option was available only after I installed SP3. After installation the server was up and running. I was able to logon to CMC and Infoview and run reports. But lately, I am getting an error that SIA could not be started. It starts and then stops immediately saying that CMS is not running on port 6400. I am not sure what went wrong. Any idea?
