MRP Does Not Plan when single item of MPN-MRP Set is entered instead of Leadpart in BoM

Hi Team,

In DIMP Add-on Solution activated system, when we use a item of MPN-MRP Set directly in BoM as a component instead of entering its Leadpart, MRP is not planning that component and gives an error message as 'item should be planned through Leadpart'(when checked in MD03).

There a business scenario, where particular finished product has a component for which there is no interchangeable part. In such scenario, the BoM of this particular FG will be maintained with that component directly; which means the Leadpart is not entered. When BoM is maintained this way, MRP does not plan that component.

Example:

FG1

Lead Part1

Component1ABC

Component1DEF

FG2

Component1ABC

During MRP, Component1ABC taken into consideration through Leadpart1 in FG1. But, it does not plan Component1ABC of FG2; where it is part of Ladpart1.

As the business has two scenarios, items with iterchangeable components and without interchangeable components, how to make the system plan for both scenrios?

Kindly suggest/guide on how to achieve this in DIMP Add-on activated system.

Regards,

Kiran

Hello

As far as I know, MPN-MRP set will always be planned entirely when you plan the leading part. As explained in SAP Help, system takes account of the pegged requirements and the replenishment elements for all parts and the requirement is covered by a procurement proposal for the leading part in the MPN-MRP set. SAP Help is also very clear telling that you cannot run MRP for a non-leading part.

Hi Caetano,

Thanks for the detailed explanation on Planning with MPN-MRP set.

The business scenario with our client requires the system to plan a component inside a FG BoM and at the same time this component is also part of another FG through Leadpart & MPN-MRP Set.

Currently, the requirement through Leadpart is only planned and the other requirement of direct component in FG BoM is not planned.

We would like to understand from you if this can be achieved with current system set-up of DIMP: MP-MRP Set by any enhancement or system modifications

OR

Can we handle it by having another Leadpart with that direct component (without interchangeability) of the FG as shown below;

FG1

Lead Part1

Component1ABC

Component1DEF

FG2

Leadpart2

Component1ABC

Kindly suggest on possible options to achieve this scenario.

Regards,

Kiran

Hello

If the component is part of a BOM, then MRP should see those requirements when planning the leading part. The only problem is that the replenishment proposal will be created for the leading part. I cannot see an alternative solution without an enhancement in the MRP run, but it may be too complex.
