When creating a project in the webide selected DEV as workspace.
When try to do a build on project got a message that workspace needs to be assigned
Through Project settings assigned DEV as workspace from dropdown option but get following error :
Console Error - PM (Project Space) Failed to set workspace settings

OK, so we've discovered the issue and this is related to the pre-configured users on the system prior to the instance being generated in your account. There are 2 options to solve this issue. The first is a manual workaround option to fix the issue and is discussed in this blog, https://blogs.sap.com/2016/08/16/sap-web-ide-for-sap-hana-sps-12-patch-1-tips-and-tricks/
The other option is to simply generate a brand new user, instructions on how to do this can be found here, http://go.sap.com/developer/how-tos/hxe-howto-tutorialprep.html, however is specific to the HXE enviornment so that will need to be taken into consideration when using it.

DEV is a space, not a workspace. Can you provide more information about the actual problem you are having? Maybe screenshots as well?
