When do I need mobile infrastructure?

Former Member

Hi all,

short question...I want to implement an WebDynpro-application, which will access Universal Work List in Portal with a Blackberry.

On the Blackberry, the user can approve or reject the work item.

I have read, that Mobile Infrastructure has to be installed for offline mobile applications.

Is the described scenario above, an offline or an online mobile application?

Thank you for your help.

Kind regards, Patrick.

Hello Patrick,

SAP NetWeaver mobile consists of two different sub-capabilities:

Mobile - Always Connected:

This browser based thin client solution offers you a direct connection to your SAP backendsystem. This capability does not require any installation on the device. The data is not stored on the device, it consits of a device specific rendering.

This scenario is ideal if you do not need a out of signal operation, meaning you can only access your data if your device has a connection to the network. It requires just the standard Java Web Dynpro architecture ( SAP AS Java (NW 6.40/7.0).

I already created a blog with a few sample applications:

Mobile - Occasionally Connected:

This capability is SAPs thick client solution which consists of a local DB and a installed client on the device. This scenario is ideal for applications that must run even if there is no connection to the network.

It requires the Mobile Infrastructure which consits of a Mobile Middelware and Mobile Client. SAP does currently not offer a Mobile Client for BlackBerry devices out of the box.

I guess you are looking for Mobile - Always Connected. Hope this helps.

Best Regards,

Stefan
