Crystal Report Crashing

I have been using Crystal Reports 2008 with no problem. I have recently installed the trial version of Crystal Server 2008 and am encountering a problem where the reports are now crashing when I try to edit them within Crystal. It happens at various times, but particularly when trying to update a parameter field or add one to a report. The Visual Studio Just-In-Time Debugger window pops up, listing as a possible debugger "New Instance of Visual Studio 2005". An line at the top of the window shows "An unhandled Win32 exception occurred in crw32.exe [5048].

There was no problem before installing Crystal Server 2008. Any suggestion appreciated.

    Hi Diane,

The crashing of Crystal Reports IDE occurs due to two reasons.

    1. Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is not turned on for the program crw32.exe.

    2. The version of Micrososft .NET Framework is less than 2.0.

In order to turn on the DEP please follow the steps:

    1. Right click My Computer.

    2. Go to Advanced Tab and Click on Settings on the Performance section.

    3. In Performance Options Click on DEP tab, Check the option 'Turn On DEP for all programs and services except those I select' and add the program crw32.exe.

    4. Resart Crystal Reports 2008 and the reports as well as the IDE won't be crashed.

Thanks to all who made suggestions, I've tried everything and can't get these 2 to reside on the same system. So I've installed Crystal Reports Server on a different server, and all is working fine. It wasn't my optimal solution but all is working ok now.

      Regards, Diane
