Physical Inventory

Our company went live on Business One 3 weeks ago. We will be doing a physical inventory at the end of this week. Our physical inventory process has always included controlled, pre-numbered inventory tags that are filled in with Item Code, Item Name, Batch #, Bin Location, Quantity. These tags were then input into our legacy system and used for reporting, tracking and reconciling the physical inventory. There does not appear to be a method for using tags in Business One. Are there other companies using Business One who use tags to perform a physical inventory? How/where do they record the tag number? I could add a user-defined field, but don't know where to add one (don't see a Physical Inventory section under UDF management).

not sure adding a UDF is really the correct answer here as if you do you are really going to "hard code" a tag number to an item/warehouse combination since SAP does not permit direct access to the database you would not be able to clear the field.

A better solution or thought might be using the SDK or to export the items out to Excel and assign tag numbers in Excel and then you could use Excel to print labels or tags.

Your tag control could then be in Excel

We have a stocktake process more detailled than SAP B1 allows. Not with tags but similar issues with serial numbers and bins.

We looked at third party tools which ignored the stocktake (maybe because it was not the top end of those product - we can't afford those).

You may have to code a SDK development to track that level of detail and use it to update the standard SAP transaction. A bit ugly as you have to check all the current actions where you update your "tags" and map that into SAP.

But I am definitely not in favor of using Excel because SAP cannot do it. The reason we have SAP is to get rid of Excel for core processes.

We will look at another stocktake add-on in two weeks. Maybe some light there ?

I assume you want these tags on the warehouse record level. In that case, put your UDF in

Master Data >> Items >> Items - Warehouse
