We are about to embark on a BPC implementation starting with planning and followed by consolidation. We will have over 1000 users for the planning application. We understand that the installation is very complex given the size of user base.
Does anyone have experience in such a large scale set up. We are looking to validate the information on server sizing and architecture and how you have gone about the system system. We understand that we will need 5 servers (Web&App server x 3 (with hardware load balancing), SQL+File server, OLAP server).
Thanks,
MSK

Providing only the number of users it will not help for sizing.
It is important to know:
1. what application are you implementing? (planning, consolidation or both?)
2. what is the number of concuurent users:

It is important to know:
1. what application are you implementing? (planning, consolidation or both?)
2. what is the number of concurent users:
how many concurrent users are doing manual input
how many are doing only reporting
3. estimation regarding amount of data for fact table.
4. what is the size of biggest dimension?
5. how many dimensions has the biggest application?
6. how many heirachies have the biggtest dimensions?
All these information help to provide a correct sizing.
For performances it is important to have good design of application:
Trying to keep at minimum the alternate hierarchies
Don't abuse by dimension formula
Default logic should be light
Create batch logic for complicate calculation
Have a very good description and view for all processes which will run into system
of course technical setup should be done correct and following the best practices documentation provided by SAP.
I hope my comments help you to understand the complexity of product and also to understand that a correct implementation will provide you excellent performances and stability for product.

If you are in BPC 7.0, soon you will have the benefit of quick sizing tool from SAP. But, for now, look at having a few servers, optimise the database ( SQL) and avoid any MDX scripting.

Hi Ashok,
Appreciate your response. Although there are references to sites with over 1000 users, we still face the following challenges:
1. Access to Technical Resources (including SAP) with experience in such complex installations. We are given to understand that there are only few resources, that too in Europe with such experience. Hence concerns around ongoing support as we are based in SE Asia.
2. Stability of the platform for such high user base and any undertstand the lessons learnt.
3. Validation of system sizing as there are not many references in Asia.
Do you have any suggestions on the above.
Thanks, MSK

Hi,
BPC had already handled more than your estimated numbers vide this link. Trust this link will alleviate your concern!
Cheers!
