base doc type is Synonym with transaction type. Here is a brief explanation about it:
Transaction Type Abbreviations
Definition
SAP Business One uses an abbreviated alpha code and a two-digit numeric code to represent the journal entry type.
The transaction type is determined by the document or transaction that triggered the creation of the journal entry.
The alpha code is displayed in the Origin field, in the Journal Entry window and in various reports. The numeric code is used mainly in queries and is recorded in the TransType field in the OJDT table.
Here are some examples:

OB -2
Closing Balance
BC -3
Journal Entry

Delivery
DN 15
Return
