Hi,
If performance in terms of storage and speed is the issue in SAP DMS, then you can store files in content server. For this you must have a SAP content server. And you nneed to configure contnt reposotories and storage categories.
If you do not use content servers for storage and retrival of the files, the files will be stored in SAP R/3 database.. If the number of fileas are large, the average file size is large and large nu,mber of usrs regularly retrive files, then the performace will go down. Because the application server which is basically meant for retriving data ( which atr in terms of bytes) will also need to handle the the retrivals of foles also(which are in terms of KBs and MBs).
Using a content server will ease the load of file retriving on application server.

Hi,
You can SAP-DMS system through 3 ways.
1. SAP - GUI.
2. Easy DMS (Look likes Microsoft Explorer)
3. WEB DMS (To search document on Web)
If you use EP then you can access DMS system on EP also.
If you use the content server then you can use TREX search Engine.
Through TREX search engine you can search inside the document.
