SAP HANA Web-based Development Workbench and Git

Hi everyone

Is there any way to connect a package in SAP HANA Web-based Development Workbench to a Git service besides GitHub? I am trying to connect to Bitbucket, but so far, no success.

Are there any other alternatives?

Best regards,

André

No this is not possible. The integration is specific to GitHub. More general Git integration was never delivered as Web-based Development Workbench investment stopped. The product is now obsolete. It is replaced by the SAP Web IDE for SAP HANA which does have much better and general git integration.

Hey thomas.jung, thank you for the answer. Is SAP Web IDE for SAP HANA available for both HANA cloud and OnPremise versions?

SAP Web IDE for SAP HANA is the name of the product on premise. In SAP Cloud Platform there is a tool called SAP Web IDE Fullstack that has similar capabilities.

Thanks again, thomas.jung. However, SAP Web IDE Full-Stack doesn't have the same features as the SAP HANA Web-based Development Workbench in terms of XS development.

Currently what is SAP's recommended cloud tool to develop calculation views, expose XSOData and such other XS related tasks?

The recommended tool in the SAP Cloud Platform Cloud Foundry is the SAP Web IDE Fullstack. You can in fact do Calculation View and Node.js development there.

Hi thomas.jung! Thanks for the note about Web-based Development Workbench future.

Regarding "The product is now obsolete. It is replaced by the SAP Web IDE for SAP HANA".

Is it official? Can you share a link? Thank you in advance!

Hi Thomas Jung,

unfortunatly when a SAP customer today subscribes to a SAP Cloud Platform Package, they get only HANA 1.0 DBaaS and the Web-based Development Workbench. SAP sales told just yesterday one of our customer that HANA 1.0 DBaaS is not obsolete and will be available more or less as long as the customer wants.

We would be glad if we could use HANA 2.0 with this customer, however this seems not to be possible...

Regarding the original question: this is really a major pain point, customer has purchased a git service in his SAP Cloud Platform Package but can't use it with the HANA Web-based Development Workbench?

Regards,

Wolfgang

No that isn't true. If you subscribe to the SCP Neo, then you only get HANA 1.0. However if you subscribe to a SAP Cloud Platform, Cloud Foundry then you have access to the HANA 2.0 based service and the SAP Web IDE Fullstack.

HANA 1.0 SPS 12 is still supported, although not enhanced with new features. It will remain supported for 5 years after its initial Release To Customers. That puts means its maintained until May 2021. See Slide 10 of this link: https://service.sap.com/~sapidb/012002523100018101562016

Correct. This will not be possible with SAP HANA Web-based Development Workbench. This tool is deprecated and has not received any new features since HANA 1.0 SPS 09. It is replaced by the SAP Web IDE for SAP HANA or SAP Web IDE Fullstack.

Hi Thomas Jung,

this why I wrote "subscribes to a SAP Cloud Platform Package": All versions of "SAP Cloud Platform, app services package" (and of "SAP Cloud Platform, starter edition") are NEO and include only HANA 1.0.

CF is availlable only with consumption based pricing and only for a few weeks now.

Migration from package subscription to consumption based pricing is still undefined.

Regards,

Wolfgang
