BO Web Intelligence and OLAP universes from SAP BW.

Hi,

We are planning to use business Objects web Intelligence to publish the BW reports.

1. How to use the SAP BW info cube s data source for BO web intelligence universe? Is there any configuration required in BI / BO Web Intelligence?.

2. As per user documentation, If BW query with mandatory variables as a data source for web intelligence universe. Once we refresh the query from universe these BW query variables are visible in universe. Currently we are unable to see these variables in universe. Is there any configuration required in either of the systems to achieve this functionality?

Thanks!

1. There is no particular configuration required in Web Intelligence. You just need to create a SAP connection in the universe and point to appropriate Info Cube or Query.

2. There is no configuration required to have mandatory variables visible in the universe and WebI reports.

In the universe, they appear as pre-defined filters and in WebI they pop up as Prompts at query time and at refresh time.

However, some particular types of variables might not be supported (Selection Option variables) and do not appear in the universe.

In Bex query, we populate the variables by customer exit/replacement path/user entry. How can we use those variables in WebI? as you said, due to limitations we cant use those variables so what can be best alternative for that in WebI? There are some complex scenarios when we populate with the help of customer exits and replacement paths so how can we use those in webI? when we create universe over query, can we handle it there?

Any thoughts?

Hi

IEven though it is advised to filter the data at the source BW but care should be taken that you dont limit the functionality by building a very complex query at BW. as a best practice dont try to come up with a query which we will use to devlop a Universe and it server only 1 report. Intsead, make use of the Universe capabilities.

Build your query with all the necessary dimension, measures etc and try to keep it simple but not creating Mandatory prompts and other restrictions. Instaed create variables at the Universe level. Universe designer allows to build variables, mandatory prompts, formulas, Hierarchies.

This way we will make this Universe leverages to a group of reports rather than few reports.
