Problems when CR XI is installed on top CR 9

Former Member

Hi,

Hope someone helps me with the following problem --

I have CR 9 installed on my m/c as all our reports are in CR9.Recently I also installed CR XI without any issues.

BUT I am facing many problems after the installation e.x when I try to open a report in CR9 and preview it from designer.

I am getting some errors like

"Failed to open a dataset" or Query Engine error :"ORA - 00936 MISSING EXPRESSION....

or Not Supported Fail to execute SQL statement .OCI Call : OCIStmtExecute " etc

As we are planning to move to BoXI so I need BOTH CR XI and CR 9 on my m/c as I had to support the existing reports till the movement is complete.

Can any one help me me out on how I can fix the above problems?

Are there any precautions I need to take before installing CR XI on CR 9?

Thanks in advance...

Hi Alap,

We can install multiple versions on same machine if we are in need of it.

Else the best practice is to have a single version on a machine.

As the crystal is designed so, it will sometimes over write the dll files.

If we have a requirement of 2 versions on a single machine then the location and path of the crystal installation should be on different drivers.

For example if you have CR-9 installed on C:\Program files\BusinessObjects\Crystal reports 9.

Then try to Install the later version of crystal on 😧

I.e. while installation give the path for a different drive and location.

D:\Program files\BusinessObjects\Crystal reports 11.

We can avoid some of the errors and can run the reports.

Please let me know if you have any queries.

Regards,

Naveen.

Hi Alap,

It is usually not recommended to have multiple versions of Crystal Reports on the same machine and same drive. This is because a lot of DLL's either get updated or conflict with the newer version causing the report not to work as expected.

Alos, the registry keys might get redundant and since they all go to the same folder in Registry again causes an issue.

Please check if you are able to install Crystal Reports XI on other Drive ( D drive or any other).

The best way to get out of this situation would be to install CR XI on a seperate machine, as this will ensure that you dont face any errors because of the way the software has been set up.
