Crystal Dashboard Design 2016 error with Office 365 ProPlus Excel

At the end of last year, I trialed the Crystal Dashboard Design 2016. It worked for a period during the trial and then it started to generate the obscure Xcelsius has stopped working error message upon launch. I am using the 64-bit flavor of Office 365 ProPlus Excel. Can anyone shed light as to why it now generates this error message? As a footnote, I recently downloaded a new Trial with the SP5 flavor and it still occurs. I would like to purchase this product, but obviously reluctant to do so if it keeps generating this error message. Thank you.

MS Office 365 ProPlus version is 1708 (Build 8431.2236) - latest

This not an answer to the problem posted, but more information to aid troubleshooting by anyone that can help.

    Additional background for this post.

Late last year I downloaded the free trial kit for Crystal Dashboard Design 2016 for evaluation. During the trial period I could test the product successfully. Then it started generating errors like the included screen captures. I now have a customer project for which I would like to use this tool and so downloaded the latest SP5 trial kit to check if the error had been fixed. The error, however continues to occur.

When opening (launching) the application it generates the two error messages with no further detail and eventually exits. I am running Office 365 ProPlus (Version 1708, Build 8431.2236) with 64-Bit Excel on Windows 10 Pro (Version 1709, OS Build 16299.334), 64-bit OS. My hardware is a Lenovo ThinkPad T460s which is only just over a year old. Both Windows 10 and Office 365 ProPlus Excel are current for all updates.

As conveyed above, I do have a customer project to start, but feel reluctant to purchase software if it still generates errors when using the trial kit to see if the prior problem has been resolved. Any insights will be appreciated, otherwise I will have to inform customer I will be unable to do project.

With respect to Gabriel’s question on trying on different computers. I did try on an old Lenovo Z470 laptop I have (6 years old) on Windows 7 and same result occurred. Problem not a good test given age of old laptop.

Would you be able to share a screenshot of that message? Have you tried this on different computers as well? Does it produce the same result?

Try renaming the folder startPage to startPage_old

    Below is the location.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Xcelsius 4.0\assets\startPage

Tried the rename of “startPage” folder but still received same error. Any other ideas? Appreciated.

I got the same error many times (4.2 pack 2). On restart errors. Be sure to remove Excel and Sap Dashboard Design from your Windows Processes and Services. Helps me, is annoying.

By the way: SAP hes removed Sap Dashboard Design 2016 from their sells and support. If you want to use Dashboard you have to 'upgrade' to SAP Lumira Designer or as Sap advised me to use sap_crystal_server
