SAPSetup Automatic Workstation Update error

Hi

I have configured an installation server 9.0.93.0, along with an SAP GUI package (v 7.50). The package installs fine, so I'm now testing the Automatic Workstation Update service on my Windows 10 PC.

I am testing it by incrementing the version number of the package, then restarting the Automatic Workstation Update service on the client PC. After 10 seconds I get a prompt to update SAP GUI - perfect!

However, when I click Yes, I get a pop up saying that the update has failed. I click Yes again, and it fails again. It does this 4 or 5 times but then eventually does install successfully.

Looking at the log file, I can see the following error:

Error code 0x00000002 (2).10:44:19.346 NwAWUServc 1E Update service failed in launching SAPSetup: Error starting process <"\\sap_install_server\SAP GUI Installation Server\Setup\NwSapSetup.exe" /silent /package /update> Error message: The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail. Error code 0x000036b1 (14001).

Any ideas how I can fix this error please? The automatic update needs to work first time for everyone, rather than after 4 or 5 retires.

Please download the sapsetup version 95 and test with this version.

I patched the installation server with those two files and so far so good: both clients I've tested on so far have been updated without any issues at all.

Unfortunately this problem has returned after patching SAP GUI 7.50 to PL 5 😞

1834422 - Installation / Kernel Upgrade: The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect.

Possibly Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Environment needs upgrade.
