Multiple shelf life for same material

Hi

We have a material which is stored in cans. It has a shelf life of 365 days.

The cans come in 200ml capacity.....but in each production order, just 2ml is used at a time.

But after opening the can, the material has to be used within 30 days...i,e the new shelf life becomes 30days.

How do we manage this

Jurgen is correct. You can't do this without some type of customization.

But you could use a user exit, possibly one associated with the GI of the material against a process order. When the material is issued, recalculate the expiration date for the batch. This would only work if you assign EACH can a different batch number which might not be doable.

Another option that takes Jurgen's suggestion in mind is to have that second material created as a by-product to the process order. Thus you issue 200 ml to the order. Then at the end you receive in 198 ml back into the new material "B" that creates a new batch for you under the material number "B" that has a 30-day shelf-life. The can has to be relabelled with the new batch number.

When the next order is created, you set up the order to pick from material "B" (30-day shelf-life) , and if nothing is found, pick from substitite material "A" which is always full cans.

In this manner, you can use one batch number for multiple cans of material "A". You'd only issue 200 ml at a time of this. Then you receive it as the by-product into material "B" with the new batch number. As long as there was available invenotry of "B", the partial can would always be selected.

I hope this helps.

I am not aware that it is possible without human intervention.

If your material is batch managed then you do a transfer movement (309 or 311) to a new batch when you open the can and manually change the expiration date of the new batch.

Another option would be to use an extra material "...opened can" and you do a transfer posting to the other material.
