How to administer Java Stack only DB2 UDB 9.5 database?

Hi,

I'm new to SAP J2EE running on DB2 UDB V9.5, specifically Enterprise Portal.

What are my options in performing DB2 UDB administration?

Native DB2 utilities??, DB13 remote admin from a separate ABAP system???Pros and Cons of each possible option would be much appreciated.

In SAP environments, transaction DBACOCKPIT (DB6COCKPIT) delivers DB admin functionality from the ABAP stack, generally you would use a central monitoring system (CEN) or Solution Manager to maintain databases for AS-JAVA only systems. Alternatively you can use the DB2 tooks as well, but in SAP environments DBACOCKPIT should suffice.

What functionality are you exactly looking for?

Hi,

I would recommend to administrate the databse by using your SolMan systems. The current SolMan version includes a DBA Cockpit which offers more functionalittes. And for future development, SolMan will also receive more new functionalities in the DBA Cockpit

I am just looking for general admin such as containers admin, DB backup and log management and performance monitoring.

So I think you have answered my question. One last query. Is there any difference or advantages between setting up the remote DBACOCKPIT in SolMan 4.0 versus setting it up in an ERP 6.0 ABAP system?

Hi Benny,

The DBACOCKPIT transaction is part of the NetWeaver base so you can run it on any NetWeaver system. I would prefer Solution Manager because its role as central management and central monitoring system becomes more and more important.

However if you have another system that is on a later NetWeaver release (or support package) you may consider running DBACOCKPIT in that system. Keep in mind though that SAP recommends patching Solution Manager to the latest available support package as well.
