Hi,

A material can be stored, transported and sold in various units of measure. In the SAP R/3 system, you can therefore define various units of measure which are maintained in the sales and distribution screens. However, you only need to maintain the fields of the units of measure, if they deviate from the base unit of measure. If no other fields with units of measure are maintained, the system automatically takes the base unit of measure as a basis for its calculations. You can enter the following units of measure in the sales and distribution screens:

Base unit of measure: Stocks of a material are managed in the base unit of measure. All quantity movements in other units of measure are converted automatically by the system into the base unit of measure.

Alternative unit of measure: If a product is managed in the base unit of measure "piece", but is sold in the sales unit "box", you must define the conversion factor. The alternative unit of measure can be defined, for example, that one box of this material contains 12 pieces.

Sales unit: The unit of measure in which materials are sold is referred to as a sales unit (for example, piece or bottle). The value you define in the material master record is proposed during business transactions relevant for sales, such as the sales order. You can replace them with other alternative units of measure in the sales order.

Delivery unit: The delivery unit refers to the unit in which materials can be delivered. Only exact multiples of the delivery unit can be delivered. For example, with a delivery unit of 30 bottles, 30, 60 or 90 bottles can be delivered, but not 100 bottles.

Hope its clear. Do revert back if there are doubts.

Swapna

Hi there,

yes there are different units of measure for the material in the mater record.

1) Base Unit of measure. For eg Pencil. We measure it by Each EA. It is the general unit of measure.

2) Alternative Unit of Measure. For eg we can also measure pencils as a pack of pencils.

3) Sales Unit of measure. For eg the business may decide not to sell individual pencils in EA. But in pack of pencils. That is 1 Pack of pencils = 10 EA.

4) Delivery unit of measure. For eg to have a effective delivery processing, the company may decide that it will process deliveries only as a Box level. Where 1 Box = 100 packets of pencils. So this means that 1 Box will have in total 1000 pencils in 100 packets of 10 EA

Make sure that you maintain the conversion between the various units of measure.

Hi,

There are types of unit of measure defined for specific purpose.

Types are

1. Base Unit Of Measure

2. Alternate Unit of Measure

3. Sales Unit of Measure

4. Delivery Unit of Measure

1. Base Unit Of Measure

Unit of measure in which stocks of the material are managed. The system converts all the quantities you enter in other units of measure (alternative units of measure) to the base unit of measure.

Eg: PC, Each

2. Alternate Unit of Measure

This is nothing but packing unit of measure. example; soap is manufactured & packed in cartons.

Eg, cartons

3. Sales Unit of Measure

This is defiend for the purpose sales units. Example: Some company will sell products to customer if u buy certain qty.

best example in FMGC market: Company will sell bulk qty to distributors

4. Delivery Unit of Measure

This is defiend for the purpose of delivery unit. Certains products can be delivered in pallets or in cartons.

The above all will be maintained in materail master.

hope this helps u
