We are shutting down our 4.7 and moving on to ECC 6.0. Any recommendations on how to handle

- Open Inspection Lots

- Stock in Quality

Identify the materials/batches in QI just prior to cut-over.

Use QA08 to turn off all inspection types or ideally don't set up any inspection types at all until after this process.

Load the QI stock to QI with your normal load programs and use a 523 movement type. Or load with a 561 and then use 322 to move to QI.

Make sure in config, for each plant, in the QM plant settings, on the "Insp. lot creation" tab you have defined an inspection type for "InspTypeForInspStock". Most people use either an 08 or 09 for this. I usually create a variant of the 04 or 08 for this. (04LOAD or 08INIT). Something that when you look at the QA32 list with inspection types, you know right away this was a lot from the initial load.

Now use QA08 to add and activate your inspection types for all your applicable materials.

Those materials with stock in QI should have an inspection lot created. It should be the same inspection type you defined in the QM plant config above.

You can now record results and make UD's on these.

That sounds excellent.

I had another clarification. We have inspection lots for which batch is not in quality. How do we handle this scenario?

More info.

Not sure what you mean that you have lots with no batch.

Any manual lots in your old system will need to be manually recreated in the new system.

09 lots are recreated by rerunning the deadline monitoring program. (BTW: SAP will not allow you to receive expired material into stock during initial loads if your using shelf life functionality).

03 lots will get regenerated when the production folks load their orders and release them. (provided you have the 03 inspection type activated when they do this).

If this doesn't cover what you are looking for, give me some more info in the types of lots you are referring to.

For some of the GR lots we create an inspection lot, but stock is not posted to quality (post to insp stock in material master flag OFF). This means at the time of cut over, there is a possibility there will be some inspection lots for which the batch is in unrestricted stock.

We have another scenario. We have inspections lots which have long term MIC's. There will not be any quality stock for these lots. At the time of cut over we need to bring them also into stock.

Hope this clarifies.

1) Get labs to close out all the inspection lots they can and complete as much testing as possible prior to your blackout period.

2) Any remaining open inspection lots, that I didn't cover above, will probably have to be manually recreate.

So you will need to be able create lots with the long-term inspection manually. Probably need to use an 89. If you have different usages for the 89 and 04's, change the 89 usage temporaily to the same as the 04 while recreating the lots. Once you are done, change the 89 usage back again.

For the 01's with out stock, you should be able to recreate these as well. But they will also have to be 89's. Again, change the 89 usage to the same as the 01's when creating so you get the correct plans. None of these of course will have the ability to deal with stock so any rejects of these lots will have to be manually dealt with. Again, if the labs can, as many of these as possible need to be processed and UD'd before blackout.

Thanks for your reply.

One more related question. For some of the inspection types we create Physical Samples. When we move the new system, the open physical samples will be recreated with new nos in ECC 6.0. This means we might have to manually remove the existing sample labels and fix new labels.

Any thoughts on this.

Well.. I think you can manually create the samples with the same sample numbers as you have. You'll just need to set the number range to allow external numbering. Then as soon as you have manually created all the physical samples you need, go into config and set the internal number to start at the last physical number you created manually + 1.
