Problem with Transparent iViews in IE 6

Hello, everyone!

I am having some trouble when setting transparent iViews to be seen in Internet Explorer 6.0.

I set the iViews to transparant in the Portal Content studio (for example, the My Favourites iView), but they are always shown in a white background. I Tried many things, including changing all groups, iViews and everything else to transparent in the Themes Editor. Also, I tried to set a transparent gif as a background for groups, iViews and everything else. None of these worked. No matter what I try, I always end with the transparent iViews shown in a white background.

Someone told me that this is an IE 6.0 bug, and that it would work in IE 7.0 or Firefox - and as a matter of fact, it does work, I tried that too. But the official browser in my company is IE 6.0, so I am supposed to find a way to fix this bug.

If that was conventional HTML, the solution would be very simple: on the iFrame tag that is generated for an iView, all I had to do was to set a parameter for that tag like <iframe allowtransparency="true">, but since I still don't have enough knowledge or resources to edit any Portal code or code generator, I do not know what to do to solve this problem. Can anyone please help me?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Martin!!

Hadn't thought about that situations you mentined above. As I said before, i did not know if the solution I presented would work in every case. Good to know about this specific situations, thanks for pointing that out.

As you mentioned, iViews we don't know the size could become problematic if we embedd them. For example, BI iViews. You have a good point.

I still do not have a solution for these situations, sorry. If anyone can help, I will be thankfull.

Sincerelly,

Hello, everyone!

It's been a while since I looked at this post. As it turned out, another co-worker here at my project found a solution to this thread, some time later.

It's very easy, as a matter of fact. All we gotta do is open the iView we want to make transparent and look for the "Isolation Method" parameter. By default, this parameter's drop-down menu should be set to "URL". We should simply change its value to "Embedded" (which is the default parameter for Portal Pages, but not for iViews). Then we just need to save the iView and test it.

This should solve the problem (it worked for us), and should also work just fine in Firefox. I am not sure, though, if it will work in every case to everyone. Please let me know if this solution is good for you guys.

I hope I helped you all!

Hello Carlos,

thank you very much for sharing. Your solution will probably work in most cases. However, in some cases things might get tricky.

1) In case of URL iViews you cannot change the isolation method to "Embedded". The isolation method is always set to "URL".

2) In case you do not know the size of the iView you might not want to embedd it in your portal page. Very large embedded iViews might break your entire portal design.

Any other solution, you can think off?

Best regards,

Martin

If anybody find solution, pl. post it here.. as in our application, any ModelWindow is opening as transperent with white background in Firefox and Safari. I have tried to apply background color to Groups but didn't work.. Is there any property in Theme which allow us to set transperancy=false something like ? Pl. help. Thank you.
