Drill down on Stacked Bar chart

Former Member

hi,

Can anyone tell me whether it is possible to have a drill down on stacked bar chart.

My requirement is like I have a Stacked bar chart and two column charts based on YTD and MTD Actual and Budget data. Now I want to apply drill down on Stacked bar chart with values based on certain groups A,B,C.. Now when I click on any of the slabs like A the column chart should show the value of YTD and MTD A. and when clicking on B then it should change to YTD and MTD B . This is not happening at my end as the slabs A,B,C doesn't link to a common cell.

Can this feature be achieved?

Kindly help.

SR,

Stacked Bar Chart does contain drilldown capabilities.

For your requirements, I'm guessing the easiest setup would be to insert position. Then use the position insert in an Excel VLOOKUP or OFFSET formula for the other two charts. The problem is complicated a little as the Stacked Bar Chart has two insert controls for each bar.

Could you instead use a regular Bar Chart? This would avoid the complications that arise from the two insert values of the two series on a Stacked Bar Chart.

Thanks a lot for reply. Is it possible for you to create a sample report using the stacked bar chart with drill down functionality? It will be really helpful for me. I wanted to check ho this has been done based on Excel formula as I have tried lot of things at xcelsius level including position insert in. The cell in which I am mapping the columns are having formula but it is not working either.

Thanks in advance,

SR,

Attached is a file showing an example of what I think you are asking about.

If you need further help, please ask.

Hi Javier,

As the model you have sent is created in Xcelsius2008 there are certain components used which are not available in v4.5. I tried creating a similar model like the one you send in v4.5 however the drill down was not working. So what I actually wanted to know over here is that,is it possible for us to create a drill down on Stacked bar chart in v4.5 or is this a limitation in that version.?

I am attaching the Xlf file that I have tried to design on v4.5 based on your concept. Kindly look into this and suggest what can be done to get the drill down functionality working.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi Javier,

I could not access the example that you sent in the zipped file, but I would be very interested to see what you did! I am dealing with this issue right now in the 2008 version and I would love to see the workaround you created. Can you repost it for me?

Thanks,

Hi Jess,

My zip uploads don't seem to be working. Without an address to send to, I can't give the model.

Basically, I used History components reading the 2 series inserts and input to just 1 result cell. The result cell is then used by Offset functions to read the correct data from a table.

Hello Javier,

I am having a similar issue, where we are trying to figure out which section of which starcked bar a user clicked for drill down.

Would you be able to give some guidance? we are working on a POC project so its kind of critical that we prove this to the client.

Thanks

Gopi
