Cycle Count Float Time

The definition of Float Time for Cycle Counting is listed as follows:

Indicates the number of workdays by which the planned count date may vary from the current date.

For the plant, the float time is five days.

A physical inventory has been planned for a material belonging to category C for June, 1. On expiration of the float time (after June, 6), the physical inventory has not yet been carried out. Irrespective of the category, the material is parked for the next cycle counting run.

This definition would lead me to believe that if an article that exists on a Physical Inventory Document has not been counted by the time the float time expires it would be flagged to appear on the next PI Document. However, this is not how the system performs. Could someone provide clarification of how this field actually works and what impact this information has on the cycle count process?

If you item is in an active inventory document, then it will not be included in another inventory document.

You have to close the old document first.

This is from note 518418 - FAQ: Cycle Counting

    4. Question:

In Customizing of the cycle counting physical inventory you can define a buffer time. How does the buffer time influence the cycle counting physical inventory?

On the basis of the buffer time the report calculates the priority for the end of a physical inventory. That is, if you start the report for a material for which a physical inventory document is already active in the system, then the system calculates, using the buffer time, the date of physical inventory which is allowed as a maximum. As result the report outputs whether the physical inventory has still to be completed or has urgently to be completed.

The report always calculates with workdays.
