OLAP API in BOBJ

Hello,

I would like to know if there is an OLAP API available in BOBJ wherein, the historical data availabe as a CSV can be used to create a cube and further used for analysis.

Basically, if a SAP ERP customer does not have the BW and has his historical data as a file, would it be possible to slice and dice the same in BOBJ by creating a cube dynamically.

Further, does BOBJ accept an XML output returned out of a BAPI call to R/3?

Hello Anupama

Business Objects has deliberately never had its own cubing technology in recent times, preferring instead to remain heterogenous and support cubing technology from other providers such as Oracle Hyperion, Microsoft and SAP.

With the absence of BW, one possible option is to use Pivot table services. In Excel 2007 choose Insert/Pivot Table and specify the workbook or range as the source.

If this is not successful you will need third party cubing technology. For example if SQL Server is used then you already have access to Analysis Services and this can create cubes from an Excel workbook.

Aside: a possible third option is to use the Excel workbook to create a Universe and use BusinessObjects Web Intelligence. This has slice and dice characteristics.

Hello Ian,

Thanks for your timely reply.

We were not sure about this feature in BOBJ and hence chose to work on Adobe Flex Builder which has this option. We found your answer extremely clear and helpful.
