BCS Data migration and Period Initialization

Hi,

While migrating BCS app in Prod from one client to another client data was pulled from one client and uploaded into another client via flexible upload. This meant that each document was posted as a new document (whether it was a reversing entry from the previous month or a new reclass entry). Thus the documents for document types that reverse during initializaiton each month, were all posted as new documents not as reversing entries or reclass entries. The document that was actually being reversed was therefore not updated with the reversal document number - this indicates that the document has been reversed.

I knew that this would cause issues for the first month after the conversion i.e. March, because Feb had no documents for reversing document type updated with a reversal document number. Therefore all entries for Feb for those reversing document types would reverse during initialization for March.

Therefore, consolidations did not run initialization in March. They posted all the reversing entries manually as permanent documents i.e. would not reverse in the following month.

This was all fine until we ran the consolidation task reclass, but the task actually reversed out all the reversing documents from Feb as well - in other words it did the initialization as well as the reclass.

So now should I download March data and delete Mar data using Delete function for all posting levels and all doc types and then up load the down loaded files after running Period initialization for Mar. Then continuing to LDS and all other Cons functs.

Or should I just upload files for Mar and not not run Period initialization for March, because now the system is showing up as Feb entries are reversed.

Then continuing with LDS and all other Cons Functions.

Thanks in advance for replying with best possible solution and also providing analysis with prou2019s and conu2019s.

Regards,

KK

In retrospect it would have been better to post the reversals using the reversal function. This indicates that these documents may not longer be reversed nor inverted. It might still be possible to consider this, and include the manual reversals as well.

If you determine the suggestion above is not appropriate, then in the current scenario, it may be best to choose the first option: "download March data and delete Mar data using Delete function for all posting levels and all doc types and then up load the down loaded files after running Period initialization for Mar. Then continuing to LDS and all other Cons functs.". Otherwise you may be in the same situation in the following period.
