Line Breaks and Character Positions

I use CR 2008 SP0 to create reports with (among others) simple multiple line text fields.

I encounter two problems:

1.

Sometimes the last word of a line gets cut off (last character is missing) this happens in a normal text flow that should continue in a new line automatically, it appears in approx. 20 % of the lines.

2.

The 'points' at the end of a sentence get a wrong position! They normally appear under the last character of the last word of the sentence. Longer sentences make this problem worse.

Note that I use plain text fields, a very common font (Arial) with a size of 11 points (other fonts and sizes don't help neither).

I can always see the correct behavior on the Designer view but in the preview (as well as in the report and any exported document) the problems occur.

Martin,

Do you by chance have Crystal Reports installed on XP? I have seen something similar and if I remember correctly it was related to the method to smooth edges of screen fonts. This can be found in Display Properties > Appearance tab > effects. I can rememer which setting caused it but if it is unchecked then check it and try it with the standard or clear type.

Hi,

sorry, my reaction took quite a long time now but the problem was not solved so far:

I can neither find a Tab called "Appearence" nor a Field called "Effect" (I looked in the menus Report, Display and TextObject).

I use CR 2008 and couldn't find information about Anti Aliasing or related stuff in the Manual neither.

If you could be a little bit more specific about the property's name or the CR Version you used it could be helpful to me.

Thanks and regards,

Martin

Hi Martin,

It is not a Crystal Reports property, please close crystal reports and right click on your desktop Go in PropertiesAppearence Tab

Thanks,

Hello,

thank you for the quick answer - unfortunately toggling the display property had no influence at all on the behavior.

However, using SP0 of CR 2008 changed the story in the following way:

- Preview looks quite alright (the ending 'full stops' have a little offset but they are displayed)

- Exporting to PDF works, good layout also with "umlaut" (ä/ö/ü)

- Printing depends on the specific Printer (one is alright, the other has a problem with character positions)

-> I will check the printer driver version of the problematic machine first.

btw: I have the problem with a HP LJ4200dtn PCL5e, I have no problems with an Océ CS231 PCL color copier

Thanks and regards,

Martin
