Creating multiple repositories

Former Member

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong section or has been asked before but I cannot find the answer.

Having only used Business Objects for about 2 months and that is basic reporting, so this is way beyond me !

I currently have been given the task of looking after 2 Business Objects servers, both using the same Universes but using different schemas within an Oracle database.

Is it possible to create different repositories on 1 server please ? So that I can combine the 2 from above.

If so please can you point me to some instructions ?

Many thanks in advance

hi there....

for every server you have to use only one separate repository,

they can be on the same Oracle Server, but 2 different schemas.

you can have Repository A for server 1, and Repository B for server 2,

A and B schemas can reside on one Oracle server, it doesnt matter.

i hope that helps

good luck

Thanks for the reply, but I think I must have explained it badly.

Can I have multiple repositories A, B, C etc on Server 1 and multiple repositiories a, b, c etc on Server 2 all pointing to different Schemas ?

Many thanks

Yes 3 or more repositories on 1 server for different schemas on an Oracle database.

Is it possible and if so how please ?

Many thanks

Hi Chris,

This post would belong in the BO Administration forum... and then, what version of Business Objects are you refering to?

Chris,

I am trying to read between the lines here. you wrote:

I assume the three schemas that you are talking about are for your reporting (probably D, Q, and P environments). Is that right?

If that's the case, then you do not need three repositories in BOBJ. You can create three universes; one on each schema in the same Business Objects deployment.

Hope this answers your question.

Thats great to read that !

Next question, How would I set this up please ? Is there a pdf or a readme explaining how to do this ?

Many thanks

Firstly, to make it clear, you will not be creating multiple repositories for this.

Secondly, this is as simple as creating universe connections to the different sources. Remember, one connection for one universe. Once you have your universes, you can export these universes to the repository.

Hope this helps.

Hi Kashif,

Yes the schemas are for reporting purposes, but as for the environments I dont know if they are labeled D,Q,P.

Currently we have about 20 universes pointing to 1 schema for different reports. This was setup by Iflex for ease of breaking reports down.

Does this mean that I can create 3 sets of 20 universes on the same BO server ?

Sorry if I'm not explaining this correctly.

Absolutely. Each universe has its own connection to the underlying database. You definitely can do this.

Also, keep in mind that if the underlying table structure is same in those environments, then you can even create a copy of the universe and point it to a different connection.

Normally we use seperate Business Objects environments (Dev, QA, Prod) if this is done for Dev, QA, and Prod environments. But there is no reason why you can not connect one Business Objects environment to seperate data sources.

Hope this helps.
