Hi experts,

Our scenario is EDI-X12 data to XI to R/3 (both side)

For Converison Purpose,

We want to use Conversion Agent by Itemfield, but there are some other options also in the market like Seeburger and Iway adapters.

We have approx 50-60 EDI Scenarios.

Now, we want to justify that why we are using Conversion Agent not other adapters ?

Please help us ?

hi,

SAP Conversion Agent together with SAP Net Weaver, enables to automate complex integration activities for a multitude of data and document formats. These include unstructured and partially structured documents such as Office files, data streams, printing applications, and other application-specific formats.

Easily integrate unstructured and semi-structured data into SAP Net Weaver Process Integration using the Conversion Agent.

Conversion Agent dynamically converts unstructured messages from Microsoft Word,Excel,PDF plain text.

Semi-structured formats such as HL7,SWIFT,HIPA, ANSI X12 and COBOL to PI understandable SOAP XML.

So that it helps to easily integrate the information need into the back-end systems. Conversion can also be used as the reverse process to convert from XML to unstructured or semi-structured formats

Hi,

well, ConversionAgent might be OK to just translate a few files from ANSI X12 to XML-version, but it doesn´t offer a lot of the features that come with the Seeburger-Adapter, like the Classifier and Splitter.

These are the functions that matter a lot when you wanna do EDI with SAP XI.

Especially in the US, where most communication still is done via VAN, you need a tool that can detect message-version and partners dynamically to ensure a correct processing in XI.

Also, the built-in SyntaxCheck that creates FunctionalAcknowedgements which can be used for 997-messages or EDIFACT-Control is a useful feature.

Well i recently worked on Seeburger and its really easy to configure, besides that i came to know that there are some features in seeburger which are not present in conversion agent like Splitter etc.

Splitter becomes mandatory in majority of cases.so you need to look at both the products and then decide.

i would say Seeburger is most suited tool for EDI interfaces.

Thanx

In addition to Amir reply, if you are looking for EDI messages perspective then Seeburger is made for that. It also provide BIC adapter and standard EDI mapping tool, that help to conver EDI xml to EDI message format and vise verse.

It also prove ready packages as per the industry standards.

If you scenarios are high in EDI messages, preferably go for Seeburger or other 3rd party EDI adpaters.

i will recommend the seeburger EDI adapters since they have a dedicated functionality in terms of EDI and also a workbench for monitoring EDI traffic.

Hello

Conversion Agent, as you might have already realized is not just for EDI but to convert messages from different formats to XML. It is a mapping tool with broader functions to cover many different formats.

However, EDI adapters like Seeburger are specially built for EDI format (ANSI or EDIFACT) to XML transformation and vice versa. Apart from transformation, EDI adapters have to deal with other functions like routing through VAN, message/interchange envelope mapping etc.

If you main purpose is to do traditional EDI through XI, I would suggest a EDI adapter like Seeburger because they are basically EDI software vendors who have developed adapters to use with XI.

Hope this helps
