Portal 7.0 with CE 7.1 on the same server

Hi Community

I have the following requirement: CE 7.1 and a Portal 7.0 installation have to be installed on the same machine. Is there an official guide provided by SAP on how to achieve that. Or can I simply follow the guides for the respective "stand-alone" installations for portal 7.0 and CE 7.1 and then "connect" the two systems with SSO and FPN.

thanks in advance!

    Hi Alexander,

For a development environment for a specific project we currently have the following installations on 1 server:

    - XI 7.0 ABAP+JAVA

    - SRM 5.0 ABAP

    - MDM 5.5

    - Portal 7.0 JAVA

    - CUA ABAP

    - 2nd Portal 7,0 JAVA (to simulate FPN) I guess installing a 7.0 and 7.1 on 1 server won't be an issue. 😊

I would not advice you to do a Multiple Components in One Database (MCOD) but instead use seperate databases.

    Good luck!

I am still looking for a official guide which describes how to install both systems on the same machine.

    Is there no such document?

      Hi Alexander,

You will not find a guide from SAP that tells you how to do this. In a productive environment SAP does not recommend running multiple systems on the same server.

In a development and/or test environment, you can run multiple systems together. You just have to have enough resources for each system. Just follow the individual installation guides for each product. The thing to be aware of is that as you are running through the installation process, you can use the defaults for things like the http port, etc. but on the second installation, make sure you specify new entries or you'll get conflicts.

      Hope this helps.

EP 7.0 is 1.4 JDK based and CE71 is 1.5 J2EE so not a good idea to mix on a single server...

    • Is true what Mikie says, its not a good Idea to do on a Windows system...

...but on Unix/Linux environments you can set the java_home env variable in the context of the <sid>adm.

This enables you to have multiple VM's running...

Also the remark from John is important not to do this on a productive system but only on a sandbox, demo or test environment.
