Hi all
I would to add users to the security of SAP BPC from several domains, say X and Y.
When editing the "Define System User Groups" screen in Server Manager, i can specify domain X (resp. Y) in the "Domain Name" field ; and then, as an admin, add users from domain X (resp. Y) => this works fine.
But is it possible to specify something like "X;Y" in the "Domain Name" field to be able for an admin to add users from both domains without having to change anything within Server Manager (which is not very None_IT_Guy friendly).
I tried and entered X;Y and it doesn't seem to work, the domain appearing in the drop down when trying to add users is X;Y which of course doesn't exist. I tried and looked through the server manager help where i didn't found any answer (they only talk about single domains).
Thanks for your help, it would be much appreciated although it's not a life_saving question.
Regards
Julien Martin
Hi Julien,
This is not possible, you can only add seperate domains, but can not combine them. Like you say it takes exactly the domain name that you specify, so it would generate a non existing domain. But combining 2 domains would also not be very user friendly, because every domain has al kind of folders underneath. A few of them always have the same name so this would end up in a lot of folders in a list that all have the same name (like 2 folders called "USERS").

Thx a lot, it doesn't solve my problem but saves me some time.

Julien - I have a client with a similar request. Unfortunately, BPC (5.1 and prior) does not allow multiple domains to be defined in a single user group. Joost's explanation is very good.
I share the following to save you some time... we defined a user group in domain X that contains users from domains X and Y. We did this in an active directory structure where domain X and domain Y have a trusted relationship. Within BPC, we were able to set up the group. However, we could only view users who are set up in the host domain (X in this case). Users from domain Y could not be viewed in BPC even though we were able to view them in the group using the AD tools. The issue is pending with product support as it appears BPC is filtering users out of the AD group if they do not exist in the host domain.
Hope saves you some time.
Cheers,
Jeff
