Hi all,
I'm wondering is there a way to restrict users to a subset of the entire customer list.
For example, to restrict sales users to viewing only customers who they deal with in their region; for confidentiality reasons.
Is there any simple way to do this?
Thank you in advance,
Richard
There is no hard restriction possible out of the box. Only through SDK coding can this be achived.
You can set a formatted search on the CardCode / CardName fields and expect users to select based on the formatted search result but this would not prevent them from just hitting TAB and seeing the whole list

Thanks Suda,
It seems like a very logical scenario, to be able to prevent users in satelite offices from being able to access the entire organisations customer lists and history, and also to provide more ease of use, by only showing what is relevent to that user - there is no need for them to see customers outside their territory.
Its a real pity that this functionality is not available easily, and as you say, even using the SDK will still have limitations, so it would not be worth implementing if this is the case.
Is there no way to work around it, perhaps using some sort of alert, that triggers when a customer record is opened; if the customer is from a different territory than the users territory, that it closes the customer card? I'm not sure...
Thanks,
Richard
Richard,
I did not say it is not possible through SDK. It is 100% possible using SDK as the Tab event (when the users tabs to select the customer) can be tracked and only selected customers can be listed.
Also, there is an Addon called Usability Package which has a lot of other functionalities too but using that the restricting the user would be possible.

Thanks Suda,
I heard good things about the Usability add-on, so if it can do what I need and restrict users views of the customer database, then perhaps that is what we will install. It would be a small price to pay for us to maintain absolute control over who sees what.
Thanks for your quick replies, I appreciate it.
Richard
Hello,
You can check Data Ownership authorization if the same is applicable and helpful in your scenario or not.
