An attribute is a characteristic that is logically assigned and subordinated to another characteristics. Navigational attributes are used for selection and display purposes. Characterstics which are only used for selectin and display purposes can be used as Navigational atribute. If you have more characterstics, lot of CVCs have to be generated.Hence characterstics which are not involved in planning can be created as Navigational attribute. Please refer to OSS note: 413526 for more information.

The navigational attributes are used to betetr restrict the data selected in the shuffler or in a planning job without impacting in the livecache or database performance since they are real characteristics. The base characteristic takes all the responsability of sotring these detailed values in the server.
