WEBI 4.1 - Publish from last instance or sechedule overwriting original report

Hi,

I run a report to send differents dashboards from the same data to different layers of management in the business and it would be much better database wise if each day I didnt have to refresh the same data as many publications I have on the same report.

My report contains 13 queries on 6 universes for a total of 250K+ lines, one universe in perticular has some performance issues as it is in big demand.

This data is split in 11 reports inside the webi report, each providing a different presentation on the data for different kinds of recipients for you guessed it, 11 daily publications.

Publications split these different reports by recipient so each individual get their own data.

And that just me in my own department, in the whole business, it is comon with much bigger groups (more lines / queries)

What would be ideal is if we could on a source report of a publication, use the last instace instead of refreshing the report. Then I could schedule a single refresh and have an event based on that refresh et voila, one refresh to feed 11 publications.

OR a way to schedule a report and overwrite the original then publish without refresh with an event on the original scheduling.

Best Regards,

Joël

Hi again Amit,

I don't want my publications to refresh the document on runtime, nor on each opening of the document.

I want my publications to use the freshly refreshed document PRIOR to the execution of the publication.

I have 13 Individual publications using that same source document, If I do as you say (Document refreshing when it is opened) it is the exact same as having the publication refreshing the source document on runtime, wich I already do. It has the consequence of flooding the servers with 13 simultaneous requests for Data.

I don't think so there is another way to handle this.

Hi Amit,

1st : how do you comment on my answer? I can't see to be able to 😕 (New to the SAP Community)

If I understand your question and to answer it, I want to use already refreshed data as a Source document in a publication.

As in this picture : https://blogs.sap.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/5_315764.jpg (here, refresh at runtime is checked),

I don't want to refresh at runtime, but I need my document refreshed daily and my publications to use this refreshed data without needing each and everyone of them to refresh the same document over and over.

I hope this clarify things

Purge your source document data and check the option “refresh on open” in the webi document summary optionin webi and save it.after that use same document in publication and check the same check box..publication will generate individual files based on the source document refresh data in background.users can latest files without refeshing again.

Hi,

Unless what you mean is that there is a way to specify the appended document link as the source document, I don't think you understood what I explained. I don't want to open "manually as a person" the last instance of the document, I want a number of publications on the same source document to use a single refresh of the said document.

Either by

1. Scheduling the document, then having this last instance to overwrite this same document, then generating an event that triggers the schedules on my publications that themselves won't refresh this source document.

OR

2. Scheduling the document, then having this last instance to overwrite this same document, then generating an event that triggers the schedules on my publications that will use the last instance on the source document.

OR

3. Any other way that would be possible.

(I already knew the "&Instance = Last" trick to provide refreshed weblinks to a report)

Thanks,

Joël

Hi Joel

Sorry but i am bit confused.do you want to use publication latest instance data in dashboard or something else?

If dashboard then based on design studio or dashboard tool
