Problems opening perspective in Database Studio

Hi,

after installation of the latest Database Studio release it doesn't work how I would like to.

When i try to open the Database Studio perspective it throws an error:

Problem opening perspective

'com.sap.sdb.tools.ui.perspectives.mainPerspective'

I have Java 1.6.0_07 installed.

Has anyone an idea?

Thank you.

Hi again,

i could solve the problem on my own.

If you have the problem:

- uninstall Database studio

- delete Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/sdb or Documents and Settings/%username%/Application Data/sdb

- insall again

For me it worked this way.

Hi,

thanks for that, but unfortunately it did not fix it for me...

For me the issue is related to my (Windows/Domain) user: if I use a local user account it works while when logged in with the domain user it does not!

Might also be due to different user settings, apps/services started...

Cheers,

Dominic

Hello,

did you delete the directory

C:\Documents and Settings\<your domain user>\sdb\DatabaseStudio.

Thanks a lot!

That was it!

I had deleted other sdb directories (.sdb and in Application Data) but not this one...

This resolved the issue!

Hi All,

I have same issue coming up with SAP MaxDB Database Studio Version: 7.8.01.16.

It is domain Installation and I already tried deleting "C:\Users\cedadm\sdb\databasestudio" Databasestudio folder but no luck.

also i couldn't find Application data folder any where on server.

Please help.

Hi Ritesh,

the above solution should have worked. Maybe you did not delete the correct workspace?

Please start Database Studio to find out which workspace is beeing used:

-> 'File' -> 'Switch Workplace' -> 'Other' -> this displays the path to your currently assigned workspace

Close Database Studio, delete/rename that workspace folder and retry.

Renaming the workplace did also not work for me.

Hi Norma,

I did resolve the issue.

Basically MAXDB Database sturio 7.8 requires JRE 1.6. I was having same issues. Then i uninstalled MAXDB

Uninstall the Database Studio version.

1. To uninstall, call the installation manager 7.8 ("Programs -> SAP MaxDB -> Installation Manager").

2. Choose "Remove MaxDB Installation".

3. Under "Legacy", select the Database Studio version.

Selecting "Legacy" ensures that you do not select the Database Studio 7.8 that you have just installed for uninstallation.

4. Choose "Forward" to confirm that you want the system to remove the installation.

Due to the operation of the earlier Database Studio version, some processes may still run (for example, serv.exe). Stop these processes and continue with the 7.8 installation.

And then installed JRE 1.6. Then again Installed MAXDB Database studio and got the same issue.

Then i deleted the files in location c:\Users\<User>\sdb\DatabaseStudio (deleted files .configuration, .metadata, p2) and then restarted maxdb database studio and worked for me.

Same problems here, wasn't able to get Database Studio running.

Java ... cry

Now using Database Manager again, it's working fine, even with DB 7.8.

Very bad that this simple, easy and fast tool is dead.
