CR 2008 Multiple Crashes on single & simple clics !

Hi all,

I'm getting crazy with CR 2008. While creating some reports (from scratch or existing ones), after a few minutes, if I click onto the report itself (on a field, or on the blank area) CR completely crashes and the application get closed. I've applied the latest patch. This is really really anoying since I can't work more than 5-8min without having to reopen everything. And in addition doesn't give me satisfaction with CR, I used CR 8.5 some years ago and it was much more stable !

Did any one of you faced the same problem?

I'm using Windows XP SP3, brand new hardware, and Visual Studio 2008 installed.

Thanks a lot

Manual un-install is not required. Just install SP1 and then any more Service Packs.

Hi Victor,

Please check this out:

1.Are you logged in as Administrator?

2.Is the DEP switched off?

Data Execution Prevention (DEP) has been introduced in Windows 2003 Service Pack 1 and Windows XP Service Pack 2. DEP prevents Crystal Reports from accessing parts of the computer's memory.

By default, DEP is enabled in Windows 2003 Service Pack 1 and Windows XP Service Pack 2. If the computer's processor supports DEP, Crystal Reports will not run on these platforms. If DEP is not supported by the processor, Crystal Reports will run on these platforms.

To work around this error message, disable DEP by performing the following steps:

1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.

2. Double-click 'System'. The u2018System Propertiesu2019 dialog box appears.

3. Click the 'Advanced' tab.

4. Click 'settings' under 'performance'.

5. Click the 'Data Execution Prevention' tab

6. Select 'Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:'.

7. Click 'Add'.

8. Browse for the application CRW32.exe. This file is located in:

C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Crystal Reports 11\

9. Select CRW32.exe and click 'Apply'.

10. Click 'OK' to close the 'System Properties' dialog box.

11. Log on as an Administrator and start Crystal Reports.

For more information on DEP, search the Microsoft Knowledge Base for article 875351.

3.Is the Antivirus switched off?

4.Are you using Dual Monitors?If yes switch to Primary Monitor.

Hope this helps.

1.Are you logged in as Administrator?

Yes, always.

2.Is the DEP switched off?

I've followed the steps you've mentionned.

3.Is the Antivirus switched off?

Yes, always

4.Are you using Dual Monitors?If yes switch to Primary Monitor.

No.

The problem is still there: CR 2008 crashes when clicking on the "blank" area of the report, or when I want to move some fields. It is really annoying.

Any idea?

Thanks.

would suggest you to manually uninstall and reinstall the Crystal Report.

Hope it helps you.

Hi Victor

You need to manually uninstall Crystal Reports XI for one of the following reasons:

u2022 To verify that all Crystal Reports XI components have been completely removed prior to installing a later version of Crystal Reports.

u2022 To remove the remaining Crystal Reports XI components that have not been removed using the 'Add/Remove Programs' command (Start > Settings > Control Panel).

u2022 To remove the remaining Crystal Reports XI components that have not been removed using the Setup.exe file from Crystal Reports XI installation CD.

-

Before getting started, uninstall Crystal Reports XI by launching the Setup.exe file from the installation CD or by using the 'Add/Remove Programs' command. If either of these methods fails to remove all Crystal Reports directories, files and registry keys, then continue with the resolution of this article.

==========

WARNING:

This resolution can be applied if Crystal Reports XI is the only software installed on the computer that uses the Business Objects directories, files and registry keys.

For example, Crystal Analysis, Crystal Enterprise and BusinessObjects Enterprise XI are applications that may share the same directories, files and registry keys.

Removing these directories, files and registry keys may cause other software to function incorrectly.

==========

1. To manually uninstall Crystal Reports XI, delete the following directories:

u2022 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0

u2022 C:\Program Files\Business Objects

====================

NOTE:

Do not remove the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0 if you have BusinessObjects Enterprise XI or Crystal Reports Server XI installed. These files are shared by both applications and removal of these files will cause Business ObjectsEnterprise XI and Crystal Reports Server XI to function incorrectly.

====================

2. Delete the following registry keys:

====================

WARNING:

The following resolution involves editing the registry. Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall the Microsoft Windows operating system. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk.

HELP:

For information on how to edit the registry key, view the 'Changing Keys And Values' online Help topic in the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).

RECOMMENDATION:

It is strongly recommended that you make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat on Win9x computers) before you edit the registry.

====================

u2022 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\

u2022 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports

u2022 HKEY_USERS\S-#-#-##-...-####\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports

(The number signs (#) represent a series of numbers that are different on each computer.)

====================

NOTE:

After making changes to the registry, restart the affected service or application as required.

====================

Hope this helps
