Material being replaced, by a BOM that includes that material

Interesting twist. I need to take a material and bundle into a BOM. I want the material when entered to be replaced by the BOM, which includes the same material and others. The normal replacement rule is creating a never ending loop of adding the bom over and over which I can see the logic but how do I make the case I need to work.

Material A replaced by Material B (plus material A)

Kerry,

I would suggest that you maintain such replacement in a custom table and adjust the BOM during explosion in your orders - planned order or production order using BAdI's/enhancements.

Hi Kerry,

Please correct if I am wrong, you want to create a BOM for a material which has that material also?

Like BOM for material A having components as A,B etc...

Can this be achieved by making BOM for A and then adding that as "recursion allowed".

Kerry,

I get the sense that you already tried the BOM for A that includes A and B. And that the replacement rule is giving you the never ending loop.

It is an interesting twist.

I trust you already thought about the normal way to use virtual material C that has a BOM for A and B?

thank you both, yes we tried a few things, it is an odd case but strangely enough makes sense from a need pov.
