Hello All,
I am preparing a pre-upgrade assessment for upgrade from ECC 5.0(SCP) to ECC 6.0.. I am suggesting the strategy Combined Upgrade and Unicode Conversion.
I need a template on how to prepare the pre-upgrade assessment for this upgrade..The template should also contain Impact analysis on the other application like BI 7.0, EP 7.0 and CRM 5.0..
How do I find out the Impact analysis on the other systems. Please do provide your suggestions on this.
Thank You,
Regards
Thilip Kumar

Hello All,
Thanks for your suggestions.. For upgrade from ECC 5.0(Single Code Page) to ECC6.0(Unicode), there are 2 strategies.
1) Upgrade first and then Unicode Conversion.
2) Combined Upgrade and Unicode Conversion.
However SAP recommends the first startegy for SCP systems.
I want to know what are advantages in implementing first strategy when compared to Combined Upgrade and UC?
Thanks
Thilip Kumar
Hello Andrea,
I went through the site http://service.sap.com/unicode@sap. All I could find was there is no document available for SCP in CU+UC strategy..
So apart from minimizing the down-time,what advantages does CU+UC has when compared to Upgrade first and then Unicode Conversion?

Thilip Kumar
Hi Thilip,
I don't think CUUC minimizes downtime. It infact combines the upgrade downtime and unicode downtime as after upgrade downtime you have to immediately start database export and import.
CUUC has advantage for 4.6C MDMP systems which cannot be directly converted to Unicode. Also, they can't be run productively after ECC 6 upgrade. In 4.6C systems, you have to mandatorily convert your systems to Unicode just after ECC 6 Upgrade so that SAP can fully support your systems.
Hi Sharad,
Thanks for your reply..Even I could not find any other added advantage that CUUC startegy can provide for systems with SCP..
@All- Sorry to ask too many questions in one thread.
One more question- What is the impact of ECC 6.0 upgrade on
1) Solution Manager 4.0
2) BI 7.0
3) EP 7.0
4) CRM 4.0
Any document in SMP which talks about the impact on SAP landscape?I could not find a tailor made documentabout Impact Analysis of ECC 6.0.
Regards
Thilip Kumar
Hi Thilip,
I don't think there is any impact on other SAP interfaces because of ECC 6 Upgrade. The point to be kept in mind is that the other SAP interfaces should be on a release supported by SAP otherwise SAP doen't help in case of any issues.
This happened in one of my ECC 6 upgrade where our SRM release was out of maintenance. After ECC 6 upgrade, we faced some issues on SRM side for which SAP told that we need to upgrade our SRM system so that SAP can provide full support or we have to opt for paid support from SAP if we want to get issues sorted on our existing SRM release.
By the way, check out their website www.panayainc-us.com.

I am also working on pre-upgrade estimation and master plan for upgrade from ECC 5 to ECC 6.0, but it seems very risky. it seems like could be lots of flaws and the company I am doing it for will certainly need implementation from a companion experts.
I've searched online and found Panaya which could give us consultant, I have checked the website and it is talks a lot about [SAP upgrade|http://www.panayainc.com/] but it dosen't really showing what they are doing. we need all data running well with the ECC 6 capabilities.
Please give me your impartial review/opinion - this upgrade will cost a lot, and will be a big change and we need to do it in a minimal risk.
